Islamabad, Dec 24: The Kotri North Joint Venture, comprising United Energy Pakistan Limited (Operator with 50% working interest), Pakistan Petroleum Limited (40%), and Asia Resources Oil Limited (10%), has announced the discovery of hydrocarbons from its exploratory well Takri-1 in District Jamshoro, Sindh.
Drilled to a depth of 4,156 feet (Measured Depth) on November 11, 2024, the Takri-1 well targeted Late Cretaceous/Early Paleocene sands for hydrocarbon potential. Wireline logs and drilling data yielded promising results, prompting Modular Dynamic Testing (MDT) in the Khadro Formation (Paleocene Age). MDT results confirmed hydrocarbon presence within interbedded sandstones of the formation.
Following testing, the well was perforated and completed in the Khadro Formation. Completion Integrity Testing (CIT) indicated a gas flow rate of 2.4 Million Standard Cubic Feet Per Day (MMscfd) against a Flowing Wellhead Pressure (FWHP) of 1,053 psig, using a 20/64″ choke.
The discovery marks a significant milestone, unlocking new hydrocarbon potential in the Paleocene Khadro sands. This find is expected to contribute additional hydrocarbon reserves, easing the country’s energy crisis and reducing dependence on imports, thereby conserving foreign exchange reserves. This discovery underscores the continued potential for indigenous resource development to bolster Pakistan’s energy sector and strengthen its economy.
