Islamabad, Dec 27: Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) announced the successful commissioning of the Jhim East X-1 exploratory well, part of the Shah Bandar JV Block (Block 2467-16), located in District Sujawal, Sindh. This marks a significant milestone in the ongoing exploration and development activities in the block.
The Jhim East X-1 well currently produces approximately 10 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas and over 150 barrels per day (BPD) of condensate. With a Wellhead Flowing Pressure (WHFP) of approximately 2,800 pounds per square inch (psi) at a 40/64-inch choke size, the well’s output is being processed at Mari Petroleum Company Limited’s (MPCL) Sujawal Gas Processing Facility. The processed gas is then supplied to Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC), contributing to the national grid.
The successful commissioning of the well comes as a timely boost to Pakistan’s energy sector, addressing the pressing supply-demand gap during the current energy crisis. By reducing reliance on imported gas, this initiative also offers a substantial saving in foreign exchange, benefiting the country’s economy.
The Shah Bandar Joint Venture (JV) involves a partnership of key stakeholders, with Pakistan Petroleum Limited holding a 63 percent working interest (WI) as the operator. Other partners include Mari Petroleum Company Limited (32 percent WI), Sindh Energy Holding Company Limited (2.5 percent WI), and Government Holdings Private Limited (2.5 percent WI).
This achievement underscores the collaborative efforts of the Shah Bandar JV and its role in enhancing the country’s energy self-reliance while supporting critical infrastructure development. The Jhim East X-1 well serves as a valuable addition to Pakistan’s energy portfolio, with prospects for further exploration and production activities in the region.
