Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with United States President Donald Trump on Monday on the sidelines of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, reaffirming Pakistan’s firm support for peace in the Middle East and solidarity with the people of Palestine.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the recent ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, which has brought a temporary halt to two years of relentless violence in Gaza that claimed more than 67,000 lives.

Prime Minister Shehbaz lauded President Trump’s efforts to mediate the truce, calling it “a crucial step towards lasting peace in the Middle East.”

“We are deeply grateful to President Trump for his outstanding leadership and unwavering commitment to peace,” the Prime Minister said on X (formerly Twitter). “It took his single-minded pursuit of peace to end the needless killing and destruction.”

The premier expressed satisfaction over the ceasefire and reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering diplomatic and moral support for the Palestinian people.

“Pakistan’s position is rooted in justice and humanity,” he said. “We will continue to stand by the Palestinian cause and support all peaceful initiatives that ensure their legitimate rights.”

He added that the signing of the peace agreement marked “the closing of a genocidal chapter—one that the international community must ensure is never repeated again.”

Prime Minister Shehbaz emphasized that the “brave and resilient people of Palestine deserve to live in a free state, with pre-1967 borders and Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.”
