Rafiq M. Habib, one of the leading industrialists, died at the age of 88, Habib University announced on Wednesday. He was the former head of the House of Habib, as well as the founding chancellor and chairman of the Habib University Foundation, and a leader.
Habib University paid a heartfelt tribute, saying: It is with deepest sorrow that we celebrate the long-term legacy of our founding chancellor, Rafiq Sahab, who despite the many social and political upheavals of his day, remained steadfast in his mission and whose calm resolve and integrity led to the establishment of Habib University. The vision of the institution is still the conviction that education should serve the society.
Outside academics, he also served an important role in the corporate/financial world. He also worked actively at Indus Motor Company Limited, Stile and as an advisor to Habib bank AG Zurich, the mother company of Habib Metropolitan bank in Pakistan. He was also a board member and adviser to Philips electrical Company of Pakistan Limited as well as the advisory board of Standard Chartered Bank in the country.

Rafiq was also a trustee in many welfare projects in addition to education, healthcare and humanitarian activities throughout Pakistan. His long career in banking and insurance business made him one of the most admirable business leaders in the country.
Habib University commented that he lives on in the generations that his vision will empower. The exceptional work of Rafiq M. Habib guarantees that his name will be attached to development, philanthropy, and corporate management in Pakistan.
