In this regard, the National Cyber Emergency Response Team, of the Pakistan Computer Emergency Response Team (PKCERT), has issued an important advisory for parents.

The advisory urges parents to train children on how to be safe and responsible in the digital world. The children also need to be taught about the protection of personal information.

Parents should monitor children’s social media accounts and activities, including messages, photos and posts. The advisory urges to ensure that children are aware of, and avoid, sharing home address, school details and other such information as it can be dangerous.

The first on the list of these recommendations is supervision by the parents, and a close second is engaging in open and honest conversation with children. They should know that they can reach out to the parents, regarding any improper content they come across or any challenges they face while navigating the digital world.

Cautioning younger generation on the importance of maintaining privacy online, and to allow only trustworthy audiences to see their personal content is equally significant for digital safety.

Parents are also advised to educate their children about online harassment and cyber blackmailing.
