Islamabad, Jan 4: Pakistan Single Window (PSW) has achieved a significant milestone by integrating seven major government organizations, including provincial revenue authorities and the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP), to facilitate seamless data exchange for import and export clearances. This integration is part of a broader effort to streamline trade processes and enhance transparency.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) issued SRO.2076(I)/2024, applying the PSW notification retroactively from July 1, 2024. The integration also includes several key departments, such as the Department of Plant Protection, Animal Quarantine Department, Federal Seed Certification and Registration Department, Pakistan Standard and Quality Control Authority, Marine Fisheries Department, Sindh Excise and Taxation Department, and Pakistan Mercantile Marine Department. Additionally, it connects with banks and other organizations like the Special Technology Zone Authority (STZA) and provincial revenue authorities.
One notable achievement under PSW reforms is the replacement of 96 paper-based documents with electronic verifications. The system automates redundant processes and re-engineers business workflows to optimize efficiency. Standardized trade-related documents, QR code-enabled verifications, and harmonized information requirements are part of the modernization.
A significant advancement is the connection of PSW with China’s International Trade Single Window, enabling data exchange between the two countries. This integration aims to eliminate under-invoicing risks and includes the exchange of critical documents like goods declarations, certificates of origin, and shipping data. This move paves the way for advanced risk management techniques and faster clearance of goods.
Additionally, the PSW has introduced a unified transit trade regime for all countries, enhancing traders’ convenience. Agriculture imports and exports are also undergoing digitization, with importers now free to use notified pre-inspection and treatment provider companies.
By uniting stakeholders and prioritizing system security, PSW represents a transformative step toward bolstering Pakistan’s trade ecosystem, fostering economic growth, and ensuring smooth cross-border transactions.
