Islamabad, June 5, 2025: The Zonal Office of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) in Gilgit, working closely with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Gilgit, carried out focused operations against unlawful IMEI alteration and the circulation of duplicate mobile phones.
The operation took place at Amin Mobile Repair Shops in Aliabad Bazaar, Hunza, where laptops and specialized tools used for IMEI changes were confiscated. One individual was detained at the scene and handed over to NCCIA Gilgit for further legal proceedings.

PTA continues to enforce a strict zero-tolerance approach toward any illegal manipulation of mobile identification numbers. Altering IMEIs and selling fake mobile phones are considered serious security risks, often aiding criminal cover, cyber offenses, financial scams, kidnappings, and other unlawful activities.

The PTA has appealed to the public to remain alert and immediately report any suspicious dealings involving mobile phone tampering or duplication. Regulatory enforcement is being intensified, and offenders will be dealt with under full legal provisions.
