ISLAMABAD, JULY15: Together with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Circle, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Zonal Office Lahore successfully raided the telecom franchisee to seize unlawful SIM cards.
This franchisee is situated in Khan Telecommunication in Mianwali, next to UBL Ballo Khel Road. It was discovered that the franchisee was complicit in the unauthorized SIM issuance. One laptop, three BVS (biometric verification) devices, and one cell phone were taken by the FIA during the raid.
The FIA also obtained 5,000 digital fingerprint pictures from the owner’s cell phone. The franchise owner was taken into custody immediately, and the authorities filed a formal complaint against him. The case is being looked into further by the FIA Cybercrime Circle.
PTA had previously complained to the FIA about information pertaining to the sales channel’s illicit supply of SIM cards. The operation demonstrates the government’s commitment to eliminating unlawful SIMs.
