Islamabad, Oct 13: Public Cooperation Vital for Effective Disaster Management PDMA DG. Irfan Ali Kathia, the director general of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Punjab, has reiterated the organization’s dedication to using all resources at its disposal to combat natural catastrophes.
On Sunday, the world commemorated International Disaster Reduction Day. Kathia emphasized the widespread effects of climate change in her speech, emphasizing that although disasters inflict great pain, they also teach valuable lessons.
The DG emphasized that the state bears the primary duty for protecting residents’ property and life by stating that the government has taken innovative measures to that end. Punjab, the biggest province, is actively fighting a number of disasters, including floods, as Irfan Ali Kathia noted. The area suffered very little loss of life and property during the recent floods because of the administration’s prompt and efficient response.
The DG emphasized that efficient management of natural disasters requires public participation, stating that no nation can adequately address such difficulties on its own.In view of this, the Director General of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has noted that it is the response of the public that contributed significantly to the success of the disaster management activities.
He also noted that, of course, authorities are armed with the necessary means and knowledge, but only the people can react, reduce and prevent threats, and rebuild at the right time. Public awareness relating to disaster, ways of generating early signals, and citizens compliance with safety measures can greatly improve disaster preparedness and response measures.
