Islamabad, Aug 29: The Punjab government has chosen to create new medical and dental colleges using a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
This effort will be overseen by a committee of four people, chaired by Dr. Javed Akram, the former minister of health.Professor Ahsan Waheed Rathore, vice chancellor of the University of Health Sciences (UHS); Professor Zahra Khanum, principal of SIMS; and Professor Al Farid Zafar, principal of General Hospital, are members of the committee.
This move is a reaction to Punjab’s unrestrained recent growth in the number of private medical and dental colleges. The province’s forty private medical colleges were founded without conducting a thorough needs assessment, according to the Health Department, which led to an unequal distribution of human resources.
The duty of creating a blueprint for the establishment of these medical institutions under the PPP framework has fallen to the recently formed committee. Within ten days, the committee is supposed to offer its recommendations. The objective of this effort is to guarantee a more rational and fair distribution of resources for medical education throughout the province.
