Thousands of teachers who do not have a masters degree had not been included in the previous promotions, despite having years and years of experience in the field of education. Some reports show that some such educators have been waiting for promotions for eight years.

The exclusion of BS degree holders from previous promotion policies had been a persistent source of frustration and disappointment among qualified educators across Punjab. Despite being on seniority lists and meeting other eligibility criteria, thousands of teachers with four-year Bachelor of Science degrees were repeatedly passed over for promotions, creating a sense of injustice within the teaching community.

The new policy promises to end this long-standing disparity. Under the revised framework, educators with BS degrees will be considered equally for promotions, correcting a gap that had unfairly disadvantaged them for years.

The proposed policy is expected to introduce a transparent and standardized system for career progression, ensuring that qualifications like the BS degree are recognized on par with other academic credentials.

Punjab Education Department officials have emphasized that the goal is to eliminate inconsistencies in promotion criteria and foster a fairer, more inclusive system for all teaching professionals.
