Islamabad, Feb 8: Punjab’s Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) has given the green light to five major development projects with a combined budget exceeding Rs39.73 billion. The approvals came during the PDWP’s 63rd meeting, chaired by Planning and Development (P&D) Board Chairman Barrister Nabeel Ahmad Awan. Senior officials, including Secretary P&D Board Dr. Asif Tufail and Chief Economist Masood Anwar, were also present at the meeting.
The newly sanctioned projects primarily focus on road infrastructure development across multiple districts. Among them, a key initiative involves the construction of a road linking Bahawalpur (N-5) to Jhangrah Sharqi Interchange (KLM) in District Bahawalpur, with a budget allocation of Rs4.933 billion. Another significant development includes the dualisation of the road from Mian Channu (N-5) to Abdul Hakim Interchange (M-4) via Tulamba in District Khanewal, with a sanctioned budget of Rs3.039 billion. This expansion is expected to improve traffic flow and reduce travel time for commuters.
The PDWP has also approved the dualisation of the road from Gujranwala to the M-2 Interchange at Kot Sarwar via Hafizabad, with a substantial allocation of Rs13.231 billion. This project is anticipated to boost trade and commerce by providing a more efficient transport corridor.
In District Khushab, the dualisation of the Sargodha-Khushab-Mianwali Road has been granted Rs11.806 billion. The project is aimed at strengthening inter-district connectivity, particularly benefiting industrial and agricultural sectors reliant on road networks.
Additionally, Rs7.058 billion has been set aside for the widening and improvement of the road from Sialkot Cantt to Jassar Garrison in Districts Sialkot and Narowal. This project is expected to facilitate better movement for both civilian and military transportation.
With these approvals, the Punjab government continues to prioritize infrastructure development, ensuring that key road networks are modernized to support economic growth and regional accessibility. The investment in road expansion and improvement aligns with the province’s broader strategy to enhance connectivity and facilitate trade across districts.
