Islamabad, 17 May, 2025: Nine Major Road Projects have received formal approval from the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) as part of a significant infrastructure upgrade initiative across Punjab.
Chaired by Barrister Nabeel Awan, Chairman of the Planning and Development Board, the meeting on Friday prioritised improvements in regional transport networks, aimed at enhancing inter-district connectivity and easing traffic flows in critical areas of the province.
Strategic Roads Across Punjab Get Green Light
Among the schemes endorsed was the dualisation of a 14.6-kilometre stretch on the Lahore-Jaranwala corridor. This project is expected to significantly improve travel time between the two major cities.

In the Sahiwal district, the board sanctioned the rehabilitation of the 26-kilometre Sahiwal-Arifwala Road, extending to Harappa Bypass via Malan Shah Chowk, with an estimated allocation of Rs1.09 billion.
Major Approvals by Region
The PDWP also confirmed several other high-value projects:
- Rs1.512 billion has been allocated to refurbish the 23.75-kilometre Farooqabad–Tehsil Safdarabad road in Sheikhupura.
- Another Rs1.18 billion will go towards upgrading the 19.5-kilometre Safdarabad–Manawala road, also in Sheikhupura.
- In Sargodha, Rs1.94 billion has been approved for a 34-kilometre route running from Chiniot’s district boundary to Tahli Adda, passing through Sial Mor, Midh Ranjha, and Hilalpur.
- Another Rs1.9 billion will support the expansion of the 34.4-kilometre road from Sahiwal to Shahpur.

Nine Major Road Projects also include funding for:
- A Rs1.22 billion plan to restore the 14-kilometre Sangla Hill–Safdarabad road in Nankana Sahib.
- Rs1.82 billion for repairing a 59-kilometre stretch between Tandlianwala and Kamalia via Zaffar Chowk and Mamukanjan in Faisalabad.
- Rs1.86 billion earmarked to dualize a 10.8-kilometre road from Taxila to HMC Farooqia in Rawalpindi.
The meeting also included key figures such as Secretary of the P&D Board Dr Asif Tufail, Chief Economist Masood Anwar, and other senior policymakers, all supporting the swift execution of these Nine Major Road Projects.
