The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) of Punjab has approved Rs. 96 billion for development projects to boost infrastructure and social uplift across Lahore and several other districts of Punjab.

The meeting, chaired by Planning and Development (P&D) Board Chairman Dr. Naeem Rauf, cleared multiple initiatives with a strong focus on rural development, heritage protection, and urban infrastructure improvements.

According to officials, the largest share—Rs72 billion—has been allocated for establishing model villages in Lahore and key cities including Dera Ghazi Khan, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, Rawalpindi, Multan, Gujranwala, and Sahiwal.

The initiative aims to provide upgraded housing, sanitation, and community facilities to improve living standards in underserved areas.

In a move to preserve the province’s diverse cultural and religious heritage, the PDWP also approved Rs1.5 billion for the protection and renovation of gurdwaras, churches, and temples.

Authorities noted that this allocation reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding minority places of worship and promoting interfaith harmony.

Furthermore, Rs22.47 billion was approved for vital sewerage and floodwater drainage projects in cities such as Khanewal, Kamoke, Vehari, and Wazirabad.

These schemes are expected to address long-standing drainage problems, mitigate flooding risks, and enhance municipal services in rapidly growing urban centers.

Dr. Rauf emphasized that the approved projects are part of the Punjab government’s broader development vision to strengthen infrastructure, promote inclusivity, and support balanced growth across districts.

He added that the initiatives will not only improve basic services but also create job opportunities and stimulate local economies.

Officials stated that monitoring mechanisms will be in place to ensure transparent execution and timely completion of the projects, with priority given to areas most vulnerable to infrastructure gaps and climate-related challenges.
