Islamabad, July 15, 2025: In a major relief for commuters, the Punjab government has extended its financial backing to the Orange Line Metro Train, ensuring that passengers continue to enjoy affordable fares. The Finance Department has released Rs. 7 billion to maintain the subsidy and cover operational costs, helping the service run smoothly without any hike in ticket prices.

The Orange Line Metro, which caters to thousands of daily passengers in Lahore, heavily depends on government support to sustain its low-cost travel model. Without this subsidy, fares would have likely surged, making public transport unaffordable for the working class and students who rely on the service.

Officials stated that this funding decision reinforces the government’s dedication to accessible urban transportation. At a time when inflation is tightening household budgets, such support plays a critical role in maintaining affordability.

In addition to this, the Punjab government has also released Rs. 1 billion to the Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department, bolstering healthcare services across the province.
