Islamabad, July 6, 2025: The Board of Directors of the Public Private Partnership Authority (P3A) has approved two major motorway projects focused on improving regional connectivity and making travel easier within Punjab.

In its 39th session, led by Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, the board agreed on the updated commercial plan for the Sialkot–Kharian Motorway. This 69-kilometer route will be upgraded into a six-lane highway through a public-private partnership.

This plan follows the advice of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) and is likely to improve transport and encourage industrial development in the area.

Additionally, the board gave the go-ahead for the 117.6-kilometer Kharian–Rawalpindi Motorway. This six-lane greenfield expressway will be constructed under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, with an estimated budget of Rs. 202.61 billion, including Rs. 40 billion as Viability Gap Funding.

The contract for the project will be awarded via international competitive bidding. After completion, both motorways are expected to cut travel time and boost easier trade and passenger movement between northern and central Punjab.
