Islamabad, July 30, 2025: The Punjab government has announced a complete cigarette ban in all public parks across the province.
The Housing Department issued the notification on the instructions of Secretary Housing Noor-ul-Amin Mengal, enforcing Sections 5 and 7 of the Prohibition of Smoking Ordinance 2002.
Under the new guidelines, smoking and sale of tobacco products—including cigarettes, vapes, and e-cigarettes—are no longer allowed in public recreational areas. Tuck shops, cafés, and small kiosks inside parks have also been barred from offering any tobacco items.

To ensure the public follows the law, “No Smoking” signs will be placed at visible points in every park. Staff working at parks have been assigned the task of monitoring visitors and making sure the rules are followed properly. The move is aimed at providing families and children a cleaner and safer environment during their visits.

This step is part of the provincial government’s broader efforts to discourage drug use and promote public health. Recently, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz launched the Punjab Counter Narcotics Force, vowing strict action against drug dealers.
Alongside, free public Wi-Fi has been expanded to 22 districts. The cigarette ban adds to this health-first vision for the province.
