LAHORE, 29 June 2025: In a groundbreaking step towards environmental sustainability, the Punjab government has officially launched a bottle collection scheme under its larger “Mission Zero Plastic” campaign. Citizens across the province can now earn money by collecting and submitting plastic bottles at designated recycling points.
The initiative is part of the broader Green Credit Programme, which rewards eco-friendly activities such as plastic recycling, tree planting, and use of electric bikes. Individuals earn Green Credit Hours, which can be converted into cash — ₨10,000 per credit hour — through the official green portal.
The campaign was inaugurated by Environment Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, who deposited a plastic bottle at a recycling unit as a symbolic start. It also ties into the newly launched Suthra Punjab App, allowing users to log plastic bottle deposits and track their environmental credits in real-time.

To formalize the plastic industry, all plastic-related businesses must register with the Punjab Environment Protection Department. Crackdowns have already begun against non-compliant factories and businesses using plastic bags under 75 microns, with heavy fines and factory closures reported.
With this citizen-centric approach, the Punjab government hopes to reduce plastic waste, encourage recycling, and provide financial benefits to individuals, especially informal waste collectors.
Authorities are urging the public to download the recycling app and participate in the campaign to help build a cleaner, greener Punjab.
