Islamabad, Mar 29, 2025: Under the special directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the construction of underground water tanks by WASA Lahore is progressing swiftly to conserve rainwater.
Punjab Housing Minister Bilal Yasin, accompanied by WASA Vice Chairman Chaudhry Shehbaz Ahmad and Managing Director Ghufran Ahmad, inaugurated the underground water tank project at Waris Road.
MD WASA Ghufran Ahmad provided a comprehensive briefing to the housing minister regarding the project, highlighting its key aspects.
The Waris Road underground water tank is being constructed at a cost of PKR 546 million and is expected to be completed within three months.

Upon completion, the project will have the capacity to store 1.5 million gallons of rainwater, helping to mitigate urban flooding and improve water conservation efforts.
Before this initiative, residents of the Waris Road area frequently faced flooding and disruptions during the rainy season.
The Punjab Housing Minister expressed gratitude to CM Maryam Nawaz for prioritizing public welfare and issuing immediate directives for sustainable solutions.
Bilal Yasin emphasized the need for timely completion of the project using modern technology and high-quality construction materials to ensure long-term benefits.
He also instructed officials to implement alternative arrangements to minimize inconvenience for local residents during the construction phase.
