Islamabad, 29 May 2025:  Roti Price has once again taken center stage in Punjab as Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed provincial departments to revise bread prices downward in response to declining flour rates.

During a high-level meeting focused on controlling essential commodity costs, the Chief Minister urged the Price Control Department to promptly reduce the cost of roti. She emphasized that the recent fall in flour prices must be translated into relief for everyday consumers.

Officials were told to act without delay so that families, especially those facing financial hardship, could immediately benefit from the price adjustment. Roti Price, she insisted, must reflect the reduced cost of raw materials.

Chief Minister Calls for Historic Low Bread Prices

Maryam Nawaz reportedly told attendees that the cost of roti should be brought to what she described as a “record low,” underscoring that food affordability is a critical concern, particularly for low-income households.

She expressed deep concern over the rising expenses tied to essential groceries, noting that unchecked food inflation disproportionately impacts poor and working-class families. Bread, she stressed, should remain within reach for all segments of society.

Targeted Oversight on Essential Food Commodities

Beyond the focus on Roti Price, the Chief Minister instructed officials to monitor the pricing of other staples particularly poultry, vegetables, and pulses with greater intensity.

She highlighted that skyrocketing prices are making it harder for people to afford even basic meals.

In particular, she voiced concern over the rising cost of chicken, pointing out that a single chicken meal per week was becoming out of reach for many.

She warned that such circumstances could no longer be tolerated and called for firm action to prevent artificial price hikes and hoarding.

Relief Measures Aimed at Protecting the Vulnerable

The administration reaffirmed its resolve to protect the most vulnerable citizens from the ongoing burden of food inflation. Regular market inspections and crackdowns on profiteers were among the measures discussed.

Roti Price, the Chief Minister emphasized, was just one example of how the government aims to ensure that economic relief directly benefits the public, rather than being lost in market inefficiencies.
