Islamabad, Mar 18, 2025: The Punjab Higher Education Department (HED) has officially prohibited the use of mobile phones in college classrooms across the province.
This ban applies to both students and teachers to ensure a more focused and disciplined academic setting.
According to an official notification, the excessive use of mobile phones during lectures has been disrupting the learning process.
Authorities observed that students frequently engage in social media and other non-academic activities, leading to decreased concentration.
Additionally, teachers’ phone usage has also been identified as a cause of classroom distractions.
To enforce the ban, district college directors have been instructed to ensure strict compliance.
Any violation of the policy may lead to disciplinary action.
Officials emphasize that the move aims to create a more effective educational atmosphere where students can focus on their studies without unnecessary distractions.

Reactions to the decision have been mixed. Supporters argue that restricting phone use will help students concentrate better and enhance their academic performance.
However, critics believe it may hinder access to digital learning resources, which are increasingly integrated into modern education.
While the debate continues, the HED remains firm on its stance, prioritizing a distraction-free environment for quality education in Punjab’s colleges.
