Islamabad, JULY25: All of Punjab’s government-run commerce colleges will close and become information technology (IT) institutes, according to an announcement made by the provincial administration.
This program, which aims to modernize the province’s educational system and better match it with contemporary job market demands, has been put into action by the Punjab Department of Higher Education.
The idea calls for converting all 85 of Punjab’s government commerce colleges into IT establishments. The decision was made because fewer students were signing up for courses in business.
Every trade college today has fewer than 100 students, according to a report from the Higher Education Department. The government spends up to Rs. 300,000 on each commerce student, according to the sources.
Due to their exorbitant costs, several colleges have decided to become IT institutes in an effort to reduce costs and better align their curricula with the demands of the labor market.
The IT colleges will get new facilities as part of the change, along with the hiring of specialists. Co-working spaces for aspiring IT professionals and e-libraries to support research and education are two of these changes.
It is anticipated that the project will begin in the following ten days, with a quick conversion. The goal of this adjustment, according to Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, is to strengthen Punjab’s standing in the international IT sector.
