Punjab has begun a crackdown on smoke-emitting vehicles across the province to fight the growing smog crisis. The operation started today after the Director General of Environment, Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh, announced that vehicles releasing visible smoke will no longer be allowed on the roads.
Dr. Sheikh instructed traffic police to take strict action against all such vehicles and remove them immediately from the roads. He also directed that any vehicle without a valid fitness certificate must be stopped and seized without delay. The move aims to reduce harmful emissions contributing to thick smog in Punjab’s major cities.
In addition, authorities have been ordered to clear traffic jams, especially in high-traffic zones that worsen air pollution. The DG Environment also demanded legal action against those found burning garbage, stating that such offenders should be arrested and criminally charged.
