Islamabad, Nov 3: Punjab Declares School Holidays as Smog Intensifies in Lahore. Due to the deteriorating fog, which has an Air Quality Index (AQI) of more than 1,000, the Punjabi government has declared that all primary schools in Lahore will be closed for a week.
High and secondary schools are still operating, but students must wear masks. In a press conference today, Punjab’s senior minister, Maryam Aurangzeb, stated that pollution from India had made the city’s smog problem worse and caused AQI values in border regions to reach 1900.
To reach rigorous pollution control targets, the government has stepped up its anti-smog efforts. These include a ban on plastic bags, strict monitoring of construction sites, and the arrest of farmers for burning crops.
Smog, which is causing havoc in cities other than Lahore, like as Islamabad, has been likened by the minister to a pandemic. She advised locals to refrain from pointless excursions. She also underlined the importance of working together with India to address pollution caused by agricultural burning.
