Islamabad, July 24, 2025: The Punjab e-taxi scheme is set to launch this August, with the transport department having completed all essential preparations. As part of the scheme, 30 electric vehicles have been specifically designated for women to support their involvement in the public transportation field.

Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan stated that an online application system is being built with support from the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB).

A total of nine firms have been shortlisted to provide the electric vehicles under this program. The taxis will be made available on simple, interest-free payment plans.

The minister mentioned that the official launch of the initiative will take place within two weeks. A detailed financial and operational strategy has already been drafted to guarantee seamless execution.

As part of the initial rollout, 1,100 electric taxis will be assigned to fleet companies, individual drivers, and ride-hailing platforms.

According to official records, the Punjab government will bear the cost of markup, registration, and token taxes for these vehicles. Out of the total fleet, 1,000 taxis will be distributed among fleet operators, each required to buy a minimum of ten cars.

The remaining 100 vehicles will be allotted to individuals, including the special allocation of 30 taxis exclusively for female drivers. The selected vehicle providers will also be responsible for setting up maintenance workshops, spare parts outlets, and electric charging infrastructure throughout Punjab.
