Islamabad, March 20 2025: The Punjab government has expanded its Free Wi-Fi Access service, increasing the number of hotspots across the province and upgrading the system to Wi-Fi 6 technology for faster and more reliable connectivity.
In Lahore, the number of Wi-Fi hotspots has grown from 200 to 230, improving coverage for residents. Currently, the Punjab Safe Cities Authority provides free internet access at 300 locations in 11 districts.
Including Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Gujrat, Jhelum, and Attock. The service is also accessible in Sahiwal, Okara, and Murree, with further expansions planned.
Officials report that over 17.7 million users have benefited from the free internet service, consuming approximately 438 terabytes of data.
However, the Free Wi-Fi Access is primarily intended for emergency use, meaning it does not support video streaming or entertainment platforms.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has unveiled digital initiatives to integrate technology into education.
She announced the launch of smart classrooms and digital labs in government schools, aimed at enhancing IT education across the province.
The Chief Minister also emphasized the importance of modern skills for students, highlighting courses in artificial intelligence, software development, and freelancing.
These initiatives aim to equip young learners with advanced digital knowledge, preparing them for the future job market.
With the expansion of Free Wi-Fi Access and a focus on digital education, the Punjab government is making strides toward technological advancement and accessibility.
