Islamabad, Apr 18, 2025: In a rigorous food inspection drive, the Punjab Food Authority (PFA) has taken decisive action against six production units, including five juice processing facilities and one ice manufacturing plant.

These units were found in violation of multiple food safety standards, prompting authorities to impose a collective fine of Rs. 175,000 as a penalty for their negligence.

During an extensive operation in Lahore’s Tollinton Market, PFA teams carried out surprise inspections of 21 meat distribution centers.

They scrutinized over 44,000 kilograms of poultry meat stored and supplied in the market.

Shockingly, authorities seized over 5,000 kilograms of contaminated, low-grade, and disease-infected chicken on the spot and safely destroyed it to prevent it from reaching consumers.

According to the Director General of the PFA, the confiscated poultry was highly unfit for human use, posing a serious health risk to the public.

Investigations revealed that the suppliers were preparing to deliver the tainted meat to local butcher shops and retail outlets.

Furthermore, food workers at the inspected sites were operating without medical clearance or certified food safety training, a clear breach of hygiene laws.

Authorities also flagged the ice manufacturing facility for operating under extremely unsanitary conditions, raising concerns about contamination in products used for beverages and food storage.

The PFA emphasized that such unhygienic practices could potentially spread waterborne illnesses and compromise consumer health.

This decisive action by the PFA highlights their ongoing commitment to safeguarding public health by enforcing strict food safety regulations across Punjab.

The authority urges all food business operators to comply with health standards, secure valid licenses, and ensure that they have medically fit and properly trained staff members in food safety protocols.

The PFA has also appealed to citizens to report any suspicious food handling practices in their areas. Consumer awareness, coupled with regular inspections, remains crucial in combating the sale of unsafe food items in local markets.
