The Punjab government waste tax has officially been launched under the Suthra Punjab (Clean Punjab) initiative, with the scheme first being applied in elite residential and commercial zones following cabinet approval. The new levy introduces different rates for both urban and rural households, depending on property size.

As per the approved schedule, families living in 5-marla houses within cities will now pay Rs 300, while those in rural areas will be charged Rs 200. For 5 to 10 marla urban homes, the waste tax stands at Rs 500, whereas villages will continue with a uniform Rs 200.

Owners of 10 marla to 1 kanal properties in cities will pay Rs 1,000, compared to Rs 400 in villages. Meanwhile, 2 to 4 kanal houses will be billed Rs 2,000, and urban houses exceeding 4 kanal will face a hefty Rs 5,000, while rural properties above 2 kanal remain at Rs 400.

Commercial properties have also been brought under the tax net. Shopkeepers in small urban markets will be billed Rs 500 and their rural counterparts Rs 300. Medium shops will pay Rs 1,000 in cities and Rs 700 in villages. Large business hubs and plazas are set at Rs 3,000 in cities and Rs 2,000 in rural zones.

The Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has begun issuing official bills for the tax. Dedicated revenue and operations teams will supervise the collection to ensure compliance across all designated areas.
