Islamabad, Aug 12: Provincial Minister for Industry and Commerce Chaudhry Shafay Hussain said on Monday that the Punjab government will participate in the World Economic Forum first time and it will set up a Punjab Pavilion at the Forum.
He expressed these views in a meeting with a representative delegation of the UK Pakistan Trade and Investment Board led by it MD Azhar Waraich. here.During the meeting, the issues of Punjab’s participation in the World Economic Forum in Switzerland in January next year were discussed.The Provincial Minister said that private sector should also be invited to participate in the Punjab Pavilion and for this purpose the Chambers of Commerce and Industry should also be contacted.
He said that participation in the World Economic Forum will bring new investment in Punjab, so steps should be taken quickly for Punjab’s participation, adding that there is a need to increase trade with Britain.
The provincial minister said that there are vast investment opportunities in the Special Economic Zones of Punjab. A Garment City is being built in Quaid-i-Azam Business Park Sheikhupura for the promotion of textile sector.
UK Pakistan Trade and Investment Board MD Azhar Waraich briefed the minister about the details of the World Economic Forum to be held in January next year and said that the participation of Punjab could lead to mutual cooperation agreements. The relevant officers also attended the meeting.
