Islamabad, Aug 19: 4,453 additional government schools in Punjab will be turned over to for-profit companies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) as part of the government’s ongoing school privatization initiative next week. This comes after a previous stage in which 5,863 schools had already been privatized.
The ultimate objective is to privatize 13,219 schools in all. September will usher in a third phase of school privatization, totaling 2,903 additional establishments.Critics, such as organizations representing educators, contend that this privatization will lead to increased costs and exacerbate the issue of kids missing school. In Punjab, there are about 27 million youngsters who are not in school. Additionally, they charge that the government is not honoring its constitutional duty to provide free education to all.
