Islamabad, 17 May, 2025: New Posts in Education Department have been approved as part of a strategic move by the Punjab government to optimize staffing in the province’s public education system.

In a policy shift dated May 16, 2025, the Finance Department sanctioned the creation of 26,898 new positions across 1,961 upgraded and newly built schools, while simultaneously abolishing 43,960 redundant roles linked to previously outsourced institutions.

Resource Reallocation Without New Recruitment

The approval, outlined in the official notification, is bound by a key condition no extra financial load will be placed on the provincial budget. Instead of fresh hiring, New Posts in Education Department will be filled through internal reassignments.

The School Education Department will relocate existing teaching and support staff from surplus to understaffed schools, with decisions guided by student-teacher ratios and the availability of personnel from closed outsourced schools.

Officials emphasized that no new recruitment will occur under this scheme. The goal is to rationalize current human resources within the department by distributing them more efficiently across educational institutions that lack adequate staffing.

Breakdown of Approved Positions

The newly sanctioned posts span multiple tiers of the public education system. The structure includes:

  • Newly Constructed Schools:
    • 47 primary schools (423 posts)
    • 1 elementary school (19 posts)
    • 5 high schools (135 posts)
  • School-Based Cadre (SBC) Enhancements:
    • 1,181 institutions from elementary to high level (14,172 posts)
  • Upgrades via ADP & SBC Initiatives:
    • 375 schools upgraded from primary to elementary (5,250 posts)
    • 245 schools elevated from elementary to high (2,940 posts)
    • 107 institutions upgraded from high to higher secondary level (3,959 posts)

Strategic Focus on Equity and Efficiency

This large-scale staff reshuffling is seen as a response to both budgetary pressures and the need to ensure equitable teacher distribution across Punjab’s public school network.
