Islamabad, Mar 16 2025:  The Punjab government has launched an ambitious Rs4.5 billion the Murree Development Project, aiming to upgrade the hill station’s infrastructure and enhance its appeal for tourists.

The Murree development project, set to be completed in 18 months, will be executed under the direct supervision of the Chief Minister, said Kamran Lashari, Director General of the Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA).

Speaking to PTV News, Lashari outlined the key components of the initiative, emphasizing the restoration of historic shops and buildings around the General Post Office (GPO) and Mall Road to bring back their original charm and cultural significance.

He described the The Murree development project, as a transformative effort that will establish Murree as a world-class tourist destination, blending Pakistan’s scenic beauty with its rich cultural heritage.

Sustainability remains a central focus, with plans to modernize infrastructure while preserving Murree’s natural environment.

Lashari highlighted that the redevelopment will generate employment opportunities, boost the local economy, and position Murree as a premier attraction for both domestic and international tourists.

As part of Murree’s tourism expansion, the government is also introducing a glass train experience, designed to offer stunning panoramic views of the region’s landscapes.

Beyond Murree, the Walled City of Lahore Authority is spearheading various heritage conservation projects across Punjab, including the restoration of Sufi shrines, gurdwaras, churches, and other historical landmarks.

He noted the growing influx of Sikh tourists, particularly in Punjab, and acknowledged Pakistan’s warm hospitality as a major factor in attracting international visitors.

With Pakistan’s tourism industry expanding, the government remains committed to developing historical sites, promoting cultural exchange, and positioning the country as a global tourist destination.
