Islamabad, Feb 7: The Islamic month of Shaban commenced in Pakistan on January 31, 2025, following the moon sighting on Thursday. The Ruet-e-Hilal Committee confirmed the sighting after evaluating testimonies from different parts of the country.
Significance of Shab-e-Barat
Shab-e-Barat, also known as the Night of Forgiveness, falls on the 15th night of Shaban, which will be observed on February 13. This night holds deep spiritual value in Islam, as Muslims devote themselves to prayers, seeking forgiveness, blessings, and peace. Many also engage in charitable acts, recitation of the Holy Quran, and visits to graveyards to pray for their deceased loved ones.
Sindh Declares Holiday for Educational Institutions
The Sindh government has officially declared a public holiday for all schools, colleges, and universities on Friday, February 14, 2025. This decision provides students and teachers an extended weekend to observe Shab-e-Barat without academic responsibilities.

Punjab Yet to Announce Holiday
Meanwhile, the Punjab government has not yet announced a holiday for February 14. Until an official notification is issued, all educational institutions in the province will remain open as per their regular schedule.
