A marathon special meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. Chief Minister of Punjab Maryam Nawaz called for a comprehensive package for the rehabilitation of flood victims.
Maryam Nawaz directed an increase in financial assistance in the rehabilitation package. It was decided to include the flood victims’ housing restoration under the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” (Own Roof, Own House) program.
Maryam Nawaz said, “People’s homes have been destroyed; how can we sit in peace?” She emphasized the urgent need for a master plan in Punjab to prevent floods and other disasters. The meeting agreed to declare river and stream waterways as red zones for construction purposes. Maryam Nawaz ordered the preparation of a rehabilitation program for flood-affected farmers.
She instructed the early completion of the survey for the rehabilitation package. A high-level committee was formed for the survey project. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif will personally announce the rehabilitation package for flood victims soon.
The Urban Unit, Board of Revenue, and other departments were directed to take immediate steps for the rehabilitation package. Maryam Nawaz Sharif instructed an increase in financial assistance and ordered a clear rehabilitation program for flood-affected farmers. She also directed the establishment of marquees in each district for families unable to return immediately due to destroyed houses.

In view of the upcoming winter, flood-affected families will be shifted to marquees in every district. Separate marquees for men and women, along with clean water, food, and other facilities, were also ordered. Maryam Nawaz Sharif decided to remove encroachments and settlements from waterways.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif said, “The flood victims have many expectations from me; fulfilling these expectations is both my honor and my responsibility. Punjab urgently needs a master plan to prevent floods and other disasters. Every year floods cause losses, so there is a need to formulate both long-term and short-term sustainable policies.”
