The government of Punjab has issued an urgent directive prohibiting the use of wheat for animal feed. The current report of the Price Control and Commodities Management Department states that there are 104,184 metric tons of wheat in the local feed mills. The officials highlighted that wheat as a key staple item should be used first in the production of flour so that roti and other basic food items are available to residents.

This order has been issued by the Punjab Home Department under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code to ensure that there are no future shortages and the supply of products containing wheat is continuous throughout the territory. The prohibition of the use of wheat in mills of feed is now in force, and will continue to be in force until otherwise suspended.

The relocation will help protect the interests of consumers and balance the market, so that wheat is not used to feed livestock instead of people. Feed millers have no choice but to conform to stay out of court, but flour millers are likely to increase the amount of production to satisfy the increasing demand by the population.
