Islamabad, Sep 30: The registration for the ‘Punjab Honahar Merit Scholarship’ program commenced across the province on Monday.
This initiative aims to grant 30,000 scholarships annually to students in 68 disciplines. Beneficiaries will include students from 50 public sector universities, 16 medical colleges, and 131 graduate colleges.
Over the next four years, the program will allocate 130 billion rupees in scholarships, benefiting 120,000 students during this period.
In July, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif approved the scholarship program and instructed officials to expand the number of scholarships.
During a special meeting of the Higher Education Department on Saturday, the Chief Minister announced that the Punjab Honahar Merit Scholarship’ program would cover 100% of the fees for BS students at government and eight selected private universities.
Maryam also stressed the importance of supporting the private sector in promoting higher education, particularly to offer educational opportunities to youth in remote areas.

The Chief Minister directed to enhance the number of Honehaar scholarships from four thousand to twenty-five thousand.
Chairing a meeting in Lahore today, Maryam Nawaz also approved immediate establishment of new universities at Jhelum, Vehari and Bahawalnagar.
She issued directions for the immediate launching of the Laptop Scheme.
