Islamabad, Dec 30: The Punjab government has announced a significant initiative to combat plastic pollution, requiring all businesses in the plastic supply chain to register with the Environment Protection and Climate Change Department by December 31, 2024. The registration process is facilitated through an online platform, www.plmis.epapunjab.pk, which guides businesses step-by-step.
Starting January 1, 2025, unregistered plastic manufacturers, distributors, and recyclers will face strict penalties, including being barred from operations. This move comes as part of the broader effort to regulate the plastic industry following amendments to the Punjab Environmental Protection (Production and Consumption of Single-Use Plastic Product) Regulations, 2023.
The new system categorizes businesses into producers, distributors, and recyclers, with registration fees ranging from Rs. 500 to Rs. 300,000, depending on the business scale. This initiative aims to strengthen accountability, reduce plastic waste, and promote sustainable practices throughout the province.
