Islamabad, Dec 2: Stricter efforts to reduce air pollution and enhance air quality throughout the province, particularly in Lahore, have been declared by the Punjab administration.
Vehicles with malfunctioning engines and high smoke emissions will have their route permits canceled, Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb announced. On Fridays and Sundays, all heavy vehicles, including buses and trucks, would not be allowed to enter Lahore.
144 automobiles were shut down as a result of a recent inspection exercise that examined over 1,000 vehicles with excessive smoke emissions and broken engines. The province’s efforts to lessen pollution and enhance the environment for its residents include this action.
Additionally, 64 sand carts were detained for violating pollution standards, specifically for failing to cover their loads with tarpaulins. The senior minister underlined that continuous initiatives, such cleanliness campaigns and road sprinkling, are crucial to solving the problem. According to Maryam Aurangzeb, these steps are the initial part of a long-term strategy to eradicate smog within the next eight to ten years. According to her, combating air pollution is essential to protecting citizens’ health and welfare.
