The local administration has decided to impose a sanitation tax on citizens of Bahawalnagar.
In the first phase, the tax is being implemented on a commercial basis, and challans have already been issued to local shopkeepers.
Under the new plan, small traders will pay Rs. 500 per month as sanitation tax. However, the move has drawn criticism from the business community, who have appealed to the government to withdraw the decision.

Traders argue that business conditions are already difficult, and the additional tax will further burden them. “We clean our shops ourselves and even dispose of waste in containers,” said local shopkeepers, calling the sanitation tax an anti-business measure.
