Punjab has taken a major step to attract international investment by introducing a new legal framework for mining and minerals. The Punjab Mining Law 2025 has been presented in the provincial assembly, aiming to modernize licensing and regulate mining activities effectively.

Under the new law, a dedicated licensing authority will issue, suspend, or cancel mining licenses. A Mining and Minerals Force will also be established to stop illegal mining, led by a senior officer designated as DG. The force will wear uniforms and have the authority to make arrests.

Additionally, specialized mining police stations and courts will be set up to handle mining-related cases, with the possibility to appeal in session courts. The law also creates an Exploration Promotion Division, tasked with maintaining a geological database and encouraging scientific exploration.

The bill outlines bidding procedures, fines for violations, and will replace several outdated laws once approved. Its main goal is to attract investment, provide legal protection, and ensure mining operations in Punjab meet national and international standards.

Experts say the new framework will support economic growth, generate jobs, and promote industrial development, while encouraging environmentally responsible mining practices. The law also aims to improve transparency and handle emerging challenges in the sector.
