Islamabad 10 August: Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved a major intervention to support the province’s agricultural backbone: a Rs 100 billion interest-free loan scheme targeted at wheat growers. The initiative aims to ease input costs and boost production ahead of the sowing season.
The approval came during a high-level meeting where the Chief Minister called for a comprehensive strategy to ensure adequate fertilizer supply and extend targeted subsidies to small-scale farmers prior to planting.
Officials revealed that, under the Kisan Card initiative, Punjab farmers have already received Rs 63 billion in subsidies and Rs 50 billion in interest-free loans over the last two months. Additionally, Rs 13 billion in wheat-specific subsidies have been extended, contributing to a higher adoption of fertilizers like DAP.
