Punjab Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman led a meeting at the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) to review the situation in flood-hit districts. Officials also discussed precautionary steps, including the possible extension of school summer vacations.

Educational institutions across Punjab are due to reopen on September 1 after the break. However, the government is considering delaying the reopening for another week. The move comes as many school buildings are being used to shelter families displaced by floods.

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat confirmed that schools in affected areas are providing refuge to flood victims. He stressed that the safety of students is the government’s main concern.

Authorities said a final decision on the possible extension of summer vacations will be announced after reviewing the conditions in flood-affected areas.
