The Punjab government has decided to establish its own Cybercrime Wing after expressing dissatisfaction with the National Cybercrime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) for failing to address complaints effectively.

The decision was taken during a meeting led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Monday. Officials said the new Punjab Cybercrime Wing would help stop the misuse of digital platforms and speed up investigations into online fraud, hacking, and harassment cases.

A senior government representative revealed that complaints from Punjab were often delayed or ignored by the NCCIA, leaving many victims without timely justice.

The NCCIA was formed earlier this year to replace the FIA’s Cybercrime Wing. However, Punjab’s efforts to work closely with the new agency have not been successful.

On the other hand, the NCCIA continues to struggle with staff shortages and a large backlog of complaints, including hacking, online fraud and harassment cases. Officials admit that lack of cooperation from major platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp and Google has made evidence collection more difficult.
