The Punjab government has directed the installation of CCTV cameras in private hospitals across the province to tighten monitoring and improve security. The Punjab Healthcare Commission issued a notification making surveillance mandatory in all major sections of these medical facilities.
As per the directive, cameras must be placed in emergency wards, intensive care units, children’s nurseries, entrances, exits, and waiting lounges. Hospitals have also been instructed to keep the recorded footage safe for at least 40 days.
The commission further clarified that the CCTV footage will only be used for legal purposes when required. At the same time, hospitals have been told to make sure patient privacy is not violated while using the surveillance system.
