The Punjab Police Smart Police System is set to transform policing and traffic management across the province, taking inspiration from Japan’s advanced law enforcement technologies. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, during her official visit to Tokyo, announced the adoption of Japan’s integrated policing and emergency response framework to improve security and traffic flow in Punjab.

The project includes a complete upgrade of Punjab’s traffic system with smart traffic signals, AI-powered monitoring tools, and automated response solutions. Lahore will act as the test city, where the Japanese-style traffic control model will first be applied. The new framework aims to minimize traffic congestion, improve road safety, and ensure quick response to accidents through real-time data integration across police departments.

Use of Infrared and Ultrasonic Technology

To strengthen surveillance and field operations, the Punjab Police will introduce infrared and ultrasonic tools—modern technologies commonly used in Japan. These systems are expected to enhance detection accuracy, speed up emergency responses, and set new benchmarks for crime prevention in the province.

Digital Policing with Virtual Police Stations

The Punjab Police Smart Police System will also feature digital innovations, including virtual police stations and mobile apps for citizens. Through these platforms, people will be able to register complaints, access traffic updates, and connect with emergency services more efficiently. The system will also rely on expanded CCTV coverage and advanced data analytics for crime tracking and deployment of resources.

Learning from Japanese Expertise

Officials from Japan’s National Police Agency briefed the Punjab delegation on centralized monitoring systems, inter-agency coordination, and evidence-driven policing methods. Punjab aims to replicate these practices locally, supported by training programs and technical collaborations with Japanese experts.
