On the 16th anniversary of the tragic attack on the Sri Lankan team, the Punjab Police paid tribute to six brave officers and officials who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.
The IG Punjab Police, Dr. Usman Anwar, expressed deep respect and honor for the martyrs and their families, emphasizing their unwavering commitment to protecting the nation.
Dr. Anwar honored the heroes’ sacrifices and highlighted Punjab Police’s key role in safeguarding international cricket and cultural events.
It is worth noting that on March 3, 2009, the police officers successfully thwarted the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team, despite facing severe threats.
Among the martyrs were Traffic Warden Tanveer Iqbal, Head Constable Faisal Rasheed, and Constables Mudassar Nadeem, Zafar Iqbal, Muhammad Sultan, and Tipu Fareed.
The Punjab Police spokesperson reaffirmed that the bravery of the officers would always be cherished and added that their sacrifices would forever remain fresh in their hearts.
