Islamabad, 11 June 2025:  Budget for Govt Schools has been significantly enhanced under Punjab’s development agenda for the upcoming fiscal year, with a record Rs. 110 billion set aside to overhaul infrastructure and raise standards across the province’s public education sector.

The latest funding round targets persistent challenges across over 38,000 government-run schools, aiming to resolve critical shortfalls in basic amenities and physical infrastructure.

The initiative is expected to bring substantial upgrades, including the construction of 50,000 new classrooms to address overcrowding and the widespread lack of proper furniture.

In a strategic push to elevate academic standards, the provincial authorities have also approved the transformation of 72 existing institutions into “Schools of Eminence.” These upgraded facilities are designed to serve as flagship centers of excellence and model schools for future development.

The comprehensive plan includes the completion of boundary walls, installation of essential utilities, and provision of core services all to be executed under a newly introduced framework involving school management councils. This participatory model is intended to ensure greater transparency and accountability at the local level.

Officials have set an ambitious deadline of December 31, 2025, for equipping all government schools with essential facilities.

The timeline reflects the administration’s commitment to accelerating education reform and addressing years of underinvestment in the sector.

Budget for Govt Schools also encompasses financial incentives for both educators and students. Teachers categorized as A-class employees, particularly those affiliated with UETK, will receive additional support, while scholarships are to be distributed among deserving students in government institutions to foster academic excellence.
