The Punjab government has officially released the updated Punjab school timings for all institutions across the province after the conclusion of summer vacations.

As per the notification issued by the Punjab School Education Department, the revised schedule will be effective for public schools until October 15, 2025.

For single-shift schools, classes will be held from 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM, Monday through Thursday, while on Fridays, the closing time will be 12:00 PM.

In the case of double-shift schools, the morning session will run from 8:00 AM to 12:30 PM between Monday and Thursday, and on Fridays, it will end at 12:00 PM. The evening session is scheduled from 1:00 PM to 5:30 PM during weekdays, whereas on Fridays, it will begin at 2:30 PM and continue until 5:30 PM.

The newly introduced Punjab school timings aim to ensure a smooth academic routine after vacations while keeping in mind the prevailing weather conditions and operational challenges across different districts. However, the ongoing flood crisis in Punjab has led to the closure of schools in several affected cities.

Overflowing rivers such as Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej have worsened the situation, particularly after India released water into these channels, causing large-scale flooding.

Provincial authorities are keeping a strict watch on the situation, advising local administrations to adjust school operations in vulnerable areas as required. The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has already issued a red alert for “exceptionally high flood” in the Chenab River over the next 36 hours.

Reports indicate that India opened all gates of the Salal Dam without notifying Pakistani officials. PDMA’s Director General, Irfan Ali Kathia, cautioned that a massive flood wave is expected to hit Head Marala within two days, further increasing water levels in the Chenab River.

This warning follows intense monsoon downpours, combined with water releases from Indian dams, including Thein and Salal. “All district authorities are instructed to remain on high alert, with commissioners, deputy commissioners, and field officers actively present in sensitive regions,” stated Kathia.

The government emphasized that the revised Punjab school timings will remain in effect, but any necessary adjustments in flood-affected areas will be communicated by local administrations to safeguard students and staff.
