Islamabad, June 19, 2025: The Punjab School Education Department has resolved to initiate strict measures against teachers who abstained from participating in the TNA (Training Needs Assessment) examination.
As per insiders, those teachers who declined the test will now undergo an indirect review. Instead of evaluating the teachers directly, the department will scrutinize the academic outcomes of their students. If the students register poor performance, the respective teachers will face disciplinary consequences.
There are nearly 300,000 teaching staff in public sector schools across Punjab. However, it is reported that merely 10 percent appeared for the TNA exam. Owing to continuous teacher boycotts, the department had earlier annulled the assessment.

In reply to this, authorities have now introduced an alternative method. Rather than conducting direct assessments for teachers, they will evaluate student performance once schools resume on August 15.

A large number of teachers have objected to the move, asserting that their selection was already through merit-based competitive examinations. They believe it is unjust to judge their capability through supplementary tests.
Regardless of the opposition, the department is adamant about proceeding with the new evaluation system.
