The Excise and Taxation Department has announced a major move against token tax defaulters across Punjab. From November 1, registration of more than 500,000 vehicles will be suspended for failing to clear token tax dues.
According to Director General Excise Umer Sher Chattha, vehicle owners have been given until October 31 to pay their outstanding token tax. The department has issued strict directions to seize unregistered government and private vehicles as well.
Punjab has over 1.4 million registered vehicles eligible for token tax, while around 1.9 million owners have already paid their dues in the first four months of the current financial year.
So far, the government has collected more than Rs. 5 billion in token tax revenue. However, around 525,000 vehicle owners have not yet cleared their dues.
